Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

January is Cervical Cancer Health Awareness Month. Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States however, today with screening and prevention we have greatly reduced this form of cancer. Regular screenings and receiving the HPV vaccine are both great tools to help reduce any chances of developing this form of cancer. We encourage all women to get their regular pap smear screenings completed as frequently as their physician suggests (for most, every 3 years depending on your age and risk factors). We also encourage both men and women to receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

The HPV vaccine has been known to prevent cancer-causing infections and precancers. According to the CDC, among vaccinated women, the percentage of cervical precancers caused by the HPV types most often linked to cervical cancer has dropped by 40%. To learn
